This is a fishing kayak review recently contributed by a kayak fly fisherman from Florida:
I bought my Wavewalk a couple of months ago and I stood up my first time in less than five minutes.
I fly fish on the Indian River Lagoon in South East Florida where I live and the “W” fit my needs almost perfect, but at 64 years old I wanted more stability and such a higher vantage point when I needed it.
It really makes it a one man fishing machine and I absolutely love it.
I had labored over my decision to buy a stand up fishing Kayak for months reviewing almost everything including the [build-in outriggers kayak] line of boats that are sold at our local fly shop here in Stuart Florida.
I knew I wanted the stability of “W” and I wanted to be able to take a passenger on occasion.
I’m going to outfit my W kayak with the cockpit hooks and bungee as I don’t think there is a better more affordable way to keep my boat dry will it is sitting on the floating dock waiting for me to use it. Plus I love the idea that I can deploy it when caught out here in our rather numerous summer rain storms and hide under it until it lets up.
I paddle the boat standing on the platform, and use it that way a lot in the back creeks and small mangrove lagoons.

By Jeremy Knight,
My dad and I decided to take our W fishing kayaks out on Tims Ford Lake.
I never imagined it could be so much fun! We were able to get the Wavewalks in places we can’t take our other boat.
We fished with small yellow and white jigs using the trolling method. We threw our lines out and paddled the Wavewalks so the line would trail behind the kayaks. We caught over a dozen fish in a very short amount of time!
We decided to race back to the dock on our way in. I took the lead but eventually looked up to see Dad passing me up. He had the long W paddle with him which allows you to stand up while paddling the Wavewalk 500 fishing kayak. I couldn’t believe he won! Of course, I had to take my kayak back out for a second just to see what an advantage paddling while standing up would give a person.
The Wavewalk kayaks are very easy to load/unload, and maneuver in the water.
I was very comfortable while fishing, and I loved the fact I could stand up if I needed to.
I can’t wait for some more adventures…
I. -”Received kayak and very impressed. I have also purchased Jim’s sail kit, and I love it also. Works well with wavewalk. I will be taking a friend out tomorrow…”
II. -”People are curious of my new boat. Hit some high winds today sailing (beginner) and the kayak performed beautifully…”
III. -”Today a friend of mine tipped the kayak while sailing. It was difficult to right with mast, stabilizers etc… Will need to talk with Jim. I am aware sailing is not the normal… I purchased the whole kit with outriggers etc. Might have been more the operator since I had no issues. I was surprised that it could tip. Glad I know this now than when I’m sailing by myself. Cheers
Note: There’s a video showing this kayak sailing kit in action – Its sail is quite big, and it can drive the kayak at high speed. The outriggers that come with this kit are rather small, which requires both good sailing skills and extra cautiousness.
